10 Ways to Build Your Facebook Fan Base

[tweetmeme]As a fan of David Letterman, I’ve decided to do a “top ten countdown” list on the subject of Facebook, and how you can attract more fans to your business page. Here goes!

Top 10 Ways to Build Your Facebook Fan Base

10. Use Email Contacts
Facebook added two features that allow admins of new or smaller Pages to invite their customers and web contacts to connect with their pages. Visit the “tell your fans” section on the Marketing tag of your Page Manager to upload a contact file with email addresses from Gmail, Yahoo!, Constant Contact, etc.

9. Use Contests & Promotions
There’s no doubt about it – contests generate buzz for your page! Facebook recently tweaked its rules – you don’t need their written permission to hold a contest, or need to meet their minimum advertising threshold. However, you still have to use a Facebook application to administer the contest.

8. Post Photos
Use photos of your products, employees (with permission), company special events etc. Photos get shared on FB and will help spread the word about your page.

7. Post videos
Videos are also great tools to have on your page – you can use them to demonstrate your product, explain your service – maybe even include a testimonial!

6. Ask questions
Find out what people want to see on your page. Ask for opinions. Run a poll.

5. Promote Events
Conducting a webinar? Holding a special sale? Talk about it on your page. If it’s a good deal, people will comment, and then others will find out about you.

4. Breaking News
Share news about your industry, new developments, etc.

3. Posts from Your Blog
Share articles from your blog on your page.

2. Use Facebook Insights
Facebook insights help you see who is a fan of your page and what type of posts generate the most engagement. You can use the feedback to make adjustments to your content.

1. Create custom landing tabs
A customized landing tab allows you to “greet” Facebook visitors at the “door” of your page and explain WHY they should become a fan of your page. It also presents an opportunity to extend your marketing offline by collecting your followers’ email addresses.

You can learn how to maximize your Facebook ROI during a two-day online workshop I’m presenting on Tuesday, December 14 & Wednesday, December 15.

Session 1 on Tuesday will show you step-by-step how to create a custom landing tab and how to use Facebook Insights to engage your followers.

Session 2 on Wednesday will show you how to use Facebook ads to drive targeted traffic to your page, website or event.

You can attend one or both sessions, but you’ll Save $20 when you register for both days. If for some reason, you’re unable to attend, the webinars will be recorded for later viewing.

Visit Eventbrite to learn more and to register for the workshop.

  1. Facebook is no longer supporting Static FBML so why are you teaching a class about it?

    • Facebook is still allowing people to use Static FBML thru Q1 2011 since they’re still working on the iFrame development. I see no reason why small business owners have to wait until later next year to hire a graphic designer to build a welcome page, when they can save some money and do it themselves now! Hope that clears things up! 🙂
