TRANSCRIPT

Namaste. What if tracking your business finances could feel like a spiritual practice instead of a trigger fest? Well, today we are going to create a sacred money system that honors both your spiritual gifts and, you know, that practical thing you need to pay bills. But first, I want to welcome you to Live Love Engage. Especially if you are new to the podcast. I am Grace the light messenger and founder of Align to Shine Academy and I work with spiritually minded women entrepreneurs to break free from self doubt and step into their highest potential. And using my proven love method, I help them build unshakable confidence, attract premium clients and create a soul aligned business that thrives.

So it is the beginning of a new year as I’m recording this. In fact, I’m actually recording this on New Year’s Day as a matter of fact, even though you are seeing it or listening to it a few days later. And I figured this was a good time to talk about, talk about money, talk about the first quarter and what you want to be able to do about keeping an eye on the bottom line. Frankly, something that I haven’t always been so good about. I will be totally honest with you. My relationship with money has not always been, I wouldn’t say friendly. I would say it’s been more of a, it’s been more of a struggle. You know, when I was working for an employer back, back a long time ago, you know, it was, it was simple, you know, it was, you know, you, you do your work, you get a paycheck, boom, boom, easy peasy. Being a business owner, it’s a little different. And it’s requires monitoring things like, you know, expenses and revenues and keeping track of things like that. And, and again, I haven’t, I haven’t been the greatest at that. And, and a lot of it is because of some inherited money patterns that I received from, from my parents through, through truly no fault of their own. But it’s the way that they grew up. They both, my mom and dad grew up during the depression in the 1920s. So they had a different relationship to money. And money was hard to come by certainly. And you know, I grew up listening to, you know, and I’m sure probably a lot of you have heard these same things. Money doesn’t grow on trees or, you know, you got to work hard for your money and then rich people are crooks. Have you ever heard of that one? That was, I think that that was really my mom’s impression. You know, she was a union employee. She also didn’t have the best relationship with her brother who was an entrepreneur. And so I think that was part of it as well.

But anyway, so, so I grew up, you know, having these, these beliefs which I didn’t really, wasn’t really conscious of. And, and you might have similar things. So it can show up in different ways, and it certainly did for me. Sometimes it’s this fear of charging what you’re worth. And so instead you wind up not appropriately pricing your products or services. And you often, well, maybe not often, but you maybe tend to over give in order to prove your value. And also with spiritual entrepreneurs in particular, especially people, I think in the healing, healing in particular modes, there is some sort of unconscious vow of poverty, you know, tied to spiritual work. Because, because again, it’s like, you know, you, you want to heal people and you think that you shouldn’t have to charge for that. However, you go to the doctor, don’t you? And the doctor charges a lot of money. So even if you are perhaps doing energy work or you are doing massage therapy, for instance, you still have bills to pay, just like everybody else does. So that means you need to be able to charge what you’re worth. And I’ve got, you can go back and find some other podcast episodes that I’ve done around that. I’ve got a whole book on this subject as well. My, my book Live Love, Engage how to Stop Doubting yourself and Start Being Yourself. And it’s, you know, it’s really important to be able to, to own your work, to value your uniqueness, and to open yourself to receive love in the form of money sometimes, frankly.

So, so let’s get right to it. Let’s, let’s get to what we can do to have a better relationship with money in this new year, in this new quarter, so that you can really appreciate what you’re doing, the work that you’re doing in the world and, and, and rejoice over being compensated for it. So here, what I’m calling this sort of sacred money snapshot system. So if you’ve got a journal handy, you might want to take some notes. Otherwise you can go back in and listen to this episode again and then take some notes. But, and I’m having it, I’m having an idea here actually is also if you want, you, if you want to get a copy of this, I would be happy to email you a copy of it. So if you want to comment on, you can comment on the YouTube video when this goes out. Well, yeah, if you’re watching this on YouTube now, obviously you could, you could comment but definitely reach out to me. You, you see, my, my social media links are, are here LinkedIn.com you can find me at Gloria Grace Rand YouTube. You can go to my website. You can go Gloria gracerand.com or just Gloria rand.com. that’s how I originally set up the domain. And reach out to me. Okay. And I, I’ll be happy, happy to help you with this. And I’m going to pause for one quick second because I think I have to sneeze. Let me see. Okay, I stopped. Good. All right. Okay, so here we do. So what I encourage you to do is we’re going to do a weekly revenue check in. So take. And it’s only going to take you like five minutes. You might want to do it, do it on a Monday, might be good, or maybe over the weekend possibly. And you want to create like a simple spreadsheet or a journal page and just put three columns in it. The first one is going to say income received.

The second one is going to be income promised. And this is like signed but not paid. So for instance, perhaps you especially when I was first doing my copywriting work, I would have a contract that I would send out to a client. And so they agreed, but until the money came in, that, that would go under that column. And then the third one is a gratitude note because as I always say, the more you have to be gratitude, the more you have to be grateful for, the more you have, the more you get to be, the more you will receive to, you know, it’s a reciprocal thing. This is what I’m trying to say. The more you’re grateful for, the more you have to be grateful for. Yeah, there we go. The more gratitude you express, the more you have to be grateful for. That’s, I think, an easier way to say it. So one thing that you’re proud of, financially, maybe you resisted spending money on a Starbucks coffee or something. This time you’re like, ah, you know what? I’ll fix a cup of coffee at home. I don’t really need to spend however much it is. I don’t, I don’t get Starbucks coffee. I buy tea there sometimes. But lately I’ve been just making tea at home. So there you go. So, so again, set a specific time for this and, and put it on your calendar that you’re going to do this every week. And, and then before you dive into the numbers, you might want to just kind of center yourself a little bit, take a deep breath, you know, and maybe light a candle. But make it, make It a ritual. Don’t, don’t just, you know, treat it as a chore. Treat this as something that is amazing and that you get to do. You get to look at the money that you have received over the last week or what you’re grateful for, either one. It’s great. Okay. Second thing is this is something you’re going to do at the end of the month. You spend probably a half an hour with this. And of course, if you are also balancing your own books, you’re probably doing this anyway because you probably are reconciling your checkbook. But we’re just going to focus on this. So you’re going to want to look at the, the total revenue you had for the month, number of, if you work with clients, maybe the number of sessions you had, the number of programs or courses that you sold, whatever your products or services are. And maybe track if you do recurring revenue, like if you have memberships. I have a membership in the Soulful Women’s Network. So that’s something that I would track for myself. And I love this one. And I learned this from. I had a money, money mentor named Tasha Chen, and she loved to focus in on unexpected income. So you could call this like angel money. So, for instance, for me today, I would write down that I had unexpected income of 13 cents because I went on two walks today, and I found. The first time I found a dime and two pennies. And then I went out for a walk a little while ago and I found another penny. So I had 13 cents. And as Tasha would say, she would say every time she would find a penny, she would hold it up and say, $1 million. Thank you, thank you, thank you. So I, I’m saying $13 million today. So that’s unexpected money. That would go there. And then one sentence about what you learned about money in this last month, that would be another thing to do.

Now, if you want to get creative and if you are, if you are an artist or you love doing things like that, you could create a, some sort of visual progress tracker. You could maybe have a thermometer or a spiral drawing, and you can color it in and focus on celebrating progress. Okay. Okay. And have it somewhere where you could look at it. And also, and this is something I also teach as well, is add positive client feedback notes around it. So I hope that you, I hope, hope, hope that you are keeping track of your testimonial somewhere so that you can, you know, because not every day in our business is great, and sometimes we need a little pick me up. And so being able to look at testimonials is a great way to remind you about what an awesome person you are, what an awesome business owner you are, what an awesome service or product provider you are.

Okay then number four, the last, last part of this system is have some check in questions for yourself. Ask yourself how, how did receiving money feel this past week? Look at where was there any resistance coming up? Looking at the numbers like I said I could, I, I’ve done that. I’ve kind of been like, oh, I don’t want to, I don’t really want to look at my, you know, the end of the year or, or, you know, or the end of the month. I don’t want to look at because I don’t think I, I did as well as I thought. And then sometimes you’ll be surprised because you may have actually done better than you thought. And that’s always a great thing. You can also talk about, you know, look at what felt easiest to track and celebrate and, and where might you need some additional support. So it’s, this whole thing is designed to really, not to trigger perfectionism, but it’s to help you to really build a wonderful relationship with money. Because, you know, money’s energy. That’s all it is. It’s energy. It’s a form of energy that we get to exchange with people. As a business owner, you are exchanging something for either exchanging your product or service for money. And so use this also as an opportunity to focus on learning rather than judgment as well. So this should help you with at least the relationship with money.

And then now the other aspect of this, which would be a good idea for you to be doing right now, is to do some practical planning for the first quarter. And so I talked about this in an earlier episode where I talked about, I think it was the sacred business review about setting some revenue goals you want to set. Set a goal that stretches you but doesn’t go too far. You might, you might have a little bit of a stretch. So come look at what you did last quarter and then see, maybe you want to add 10% or maybe 15%. Maybe that’s, maybe that’s too much, maybe 5%. But you know, figure out what, what is comfortable for you if it, if it starts making you really uncomfortable. Like say if you would say, oh, well, you know, I earned 5,000, I had $5,000 in revenue, you know, last month. I want $25,000. This, this, this month or this quarter, whatever, you know what I mean? Whatever. Let’s just Say month. Let’s say you had $5,000 last month and you want $25,000 next month. That’s a bit of a leap. I mean, unless you’re launching some amazing program that will cover that, then it might be too much of a leap. So you might want to scale it back down, maybe go from 5,000 to 10,000 or 5,000 to 75. So see what I’m, I’m saying. And then, you know, identify what are the specific offers you’re doing, make plans for how are you going to market them, and, and just, you know, keep track of it. And I tell you, you know, if you have a planner, something that will be helpful for you, that that’s a really good way to do it. I’m actually using a, I’ve got a brand new planner that I’m using to keep track of these things because I want to really be more mindful myself this year in knowing what I’m doing, being clear on what my goals are, how I’m going to achieve them, and what steps I need to do to get there. So I’m trying to think what else I want to say about this.

Yeah, so, so just your business is really think of it as this sacred extension of you and the money goals that you set are part of this. And, and it’s about creating a way for you to be able to appreciate and cultivate more abundance in your business. And, and when you can do things like the practical aspect of keeping track of it, you know, really know. They say, know your numbers. The reason people say this a lot, I’ve had a lot of coaches tell me this over the years, is because it’s important. You really do have to know your numbers. And that means you can’t just pretend they don’t exist, you know, you can’t. Like, I don’t know, I don’t want to see it. I don’t know. No. Got to grow up. You got to put your big, big girl or big boy panties on if there’s any guys watching this or listening to it today. And you’ve got to be able to say, yes, I am a business owner and I am going keep track of things and I’m not going to stress about it. Okay, don’t stress about it. That’s, that’s really the big thing I want to let you know about. Don’t stress about it. And, and if you find that you are stressing, then I hope that you will do something for me, which is get my free light language meditation, which will help to Alleviate some stress so that you can perhaps listen to that before you do your. Your, you know, weekly revenue check in or definitely before the monthly one. So you can get it by going to my website, gloriarand.com forward/free meditation. And you’ll be able to get the link so that you can listen to it. So I encourage you. I’ll have that in the show notes as well, because I don’t want this to be stressful. This. This should not be stressful. We want to make friends, make friends with your business, make friends with the money and, and love on it. In fact, that was another thing Tasha would say. She would. She would say, we’re gonna. We’re gonna spend this, you know, once a week. So when you’re doing this revenue check, check in love on your money and just, you know, express gratitude. And if, for whatever reason, you didn’t have any sales in the past week, you know what, if you still have money in the bank, love on the money in your bank that you’ve got. I have. I’m so grateful. I am so thrilled that I’ve got money in the bank to pay my bills. And then the next week, you’re going to have more. It’s. It’s all going to work out. I firmly believe that. And, and my, my mantra for this year is that we are going to thrive in 25. Me, you, everybody. Okay. It takes deciding. It really does. It takes deciding that you’re going to do that. You have the power to create your reality. You have the power to create the business that you want. It just takes deciding, number one, and then determination and then taking action, little steps by little steps, and getting support when you need it.

So if you would like some support and you have a question, and actually, this is a better way for you to contact me if you want to be able to get. Have me send you, because I have this all written down. I’ve got a lovely little word doc here of the sacred money snapshot system. If you want a copy of that, go to engagewithgloria.com Schedule a call. Call. This is not a sales call. It’s. It’s literally. It’ll say, let’s chat. Okay. And we’re just gonna spend a few minutes. You’ll, you know, give me your email address. I’ll send this out to you. And I just want to hear from you. I would love to know, you know, how are things going in your business, how you like the podcast, frankly, if you want to just let me know, you know, what your thoughts are if you have any ideas for topics for me to cover this year, I’m open to suggestions as well. So I hope you will do that. And again, I’ll have that in the show notes also. So. Okay, so weekly revenue check in, check in again monthly. You know, we want to review it but kindly and you know, track it and, and just appreciate that you are you’re going to hit those goals that you’re going to set for yourself this year. And we’re starting with the first quarter, three months. You can do that, right? I’m going to do it. I’m kidding. I’m committing right now that I’m going to do it too. And let’s, let’s, let’s thrive in 25. So thank you for watching, for listening. I so appreciate you and I encourage you, if you’re not subscribed already, to please subscribe on your favorite podcast platform or on YouTube. And until we see each other again or you hear me again, I hope you will go out today and every day and live fully, love deeply and engage authentically.
