Receiving God’s Grace

Have you ever wondered how you can go about receiving God’s grace? You may even wonder what grace is and why you’d want to receive it in the first place. I believe grace is something we are all capable of receiving. And as I explain in this solo episode, it’s a blessing when you do receive it.

On this episode of the Live. Love. Engage. Podcast:

  • What it means to open your heart to receive God’s grace
  • Why you would want to receive grace
  • How I experienced the receiving of grace this morning
  • The power we have to choose who we want to be right now
  • What the Daily Word from Unity has to say about grace

Welcome to the Live Love Engage podcast! Whether you’re listening on your favorite podcast platform or tuning in live on Facebook, LinkedIn, or YouTube, I’m so glad you’re here.

What Does It Mean to Open Your Heart to Receive God’s Grace?

Today I’m diving into what it means to open your heart to receive God’s grace and why this matters for entrepreneurs and anyone seeking to live fully, love deeply, and engage authentically.

The LOVE Method: A Deeper Exploration

This topic stems from my ongoing inquiry into the LOVE Method, which I wrote about in my book Live Love Engage. The LOVE Method came to me at the end of 2016 as an acronym, and I’ve been called to dive deeper into its meaning.

A couple of weeks ago, I discussed the “L” in LOVE—Letting go and letting God. Initially, this was about releasing limiting beliefs and feelings of unworthiness. But now I understand it more deeply: it’s about letting go of the idea that we are separate from God.

The “O” in LOVE: Open Your Heart to Receive

The “O” stands for Open Your Heart to Receive. In my book, I explored this concept through practical examples:

  • Being open to receive money as a business owner—allowing clients to pay you willingly
  • Being open to receive help—recognizing you can’t do everything yourself as an entrepreneur
  • Being open to receive compliments—especially important for women who often discount praise about their appearance or work

All of this boils down to one thing: being able to receive love.

Grace: Another Word for Love

Through journaling and connecting with my higher self, I received a revelation: opening your heart to receive is really about opening your heart to receive God’s grace.

Grace is what sustains us. Grace is another word for love—given to us by God and experienced by us as love. And here’s the beautiful part: it’s something we can give to ourselves too.

A Personal Example: Grace in Action

This morning provided a perfect example. I got a late start on my journaling, and I could feel tension rising. My ego was getting impatient—I was running behind, hadn’t prepared for the podcast, hadn’t even printed my notes.

Then I took a breath. I reminded myself that some chores (like changing the kitty litter for my two cats) could wait. I could write at least one journal page to get my creative juices flowing.

In those few seconds, the stress eased. This was God’s grace acting in my life—accessed simply by choosing how I wanted to be in that moment.

Moving Into a Higher State of Being

When you open your heart to receive God’s grace, you move into a higher state of being. You can rest in the knowingness that:

  • Everything is happening in divine timing
  • All is in divine order
  • You are not separate from God—you are connected

A note on terminology: I use “God” because it resonates with me from my Catholic upbringing. Please use whatever term works for you—the Universe, Source, your Higher Self, the Creator. What matters is tuning into your higher self and allowing yourself to experience the grace, love, joy, and peace available to us every single day.

The Gift of Choice

One of the most wonderful gifts our Creator gave us is free will. In every moment, we can choose:

  • How we want to be
  • What we want to do
  • What we want to have

When challenges arise—whether drama in the world, family conflicts, or difficult situations with friends, clients, or coworkers—we can step back and ask:

“How do I want to respond to this? What would be the loving way to respond?”

When we stop and breathe, we give our brain time to respond from the higher part, not the primitive limbic brain with its fight-or-flight response. This pause allows inspiration and intuition to provide another way forward.

You Always Have a Choice

Sometimes the answer is as simple as: “I don’t want to engage in this right now.” You can:

  • Turn off the television if it’s bothering you
  • Step away from social media if it’s disturbing your peace
  • Choose not to engage with a person or situation

You have the power to decide who you want to be in any given moment. That’s another example of God’s grace right there.

Stop Operating on Autopilot

Too often we operate on autopilot, saying: “This is the way I was raised. This is the way it is. I’ve always done things this way.”

But it doesn’t have to be that way. You can start your life over right now, in this moment. If you don’t like what’s going on in your life, you can change it. You don’t need anyone’s permission (unless you’re under 18—then check with your parents).

The “Stop It” Story

I recently attended a virtual event with Neale Donald Walsch, author of Conversations with God. During Q&A, a woman expressed feeling overwhelmed with angst and stuck in victim mode. His advice? Watch Bob Newhart’s “Stop It” sketch on YouTube.

I looked it up during the break—it’s hysterical! It’s a parody from Mad TV where Bob plays a psychiatrist, and when a woman keeps complaining, he simply tells her: “Stop it. Just stop it.”

That’s the point: If you don’t like what’s going on in your life, you have the power to stop it and start again. Do something that serves you, lights you up, and fills your cup.

Daily Word: Grace Upon Grace

I want to share a reading from Unity’s Daily Word (April 19, 2013):

Affirmation: I feel the grace of God as infinite love and acceptance.

Reading:

If during an unfortunate circumstance I received unexpected help that brought peace and relief, then I have known the grace of God.

Grace does not favor one individual over another. It is an unconditional expression of God’s love for all. Grace does not depend on what I do or do not do—it is always available to me.

I am humbled to know I do not have to earn the gift of grace. It is God-given. I feel the grace of God upon me as love and acceptance.

I experience grace when I receive:

  • A new insight
  • The answer to a difficult challenge
  • The right and perfect people appearing in my life just when I need them

I am blessed in countless ways, and I am thankful for God’s grace.

Scripture: “From His fullness we have all received grace upon grace.” — John 1:16

Grace is available to every single one of us—all seven-plus billion people living on this planet. That’s a truly lovely blessing.
