The Power of Masterminds for Solopreneurs

masterminds for solopreneurs

2016 was an emotional year for me. More on that later… But one of the highlights was my decision to run masterminds for solopreneurs.

If you’re not familiar with the concept of a mastermind, its modern day origins trace back to Napoleon Hill, the author of Think and Grow Rich. In that book (which I highly recommend, by the way!), he wrote that the guiding principle of the mastermind is:

“The coordination of knowledge and effort of two or more people, who work toward a definite purpose, in the spirit of harmony.”

Later, he expands on that, by saying…

““No two minds ever come together without thereby creating a third, invisible intangible force, which may be likened to a third mind [the master mind].”

I have seen the power of that statement brought to life over and over again over the last year. It began when I signed up for a Mastermind Bootcamp run by the amazing Jay Fiset. Then, later that summer, I invested in a mastermind training program (again led by Jay) so I could learn how to run these groups effectively.

Jay kept hammering home the point that if you want to lead a mastermind, you better darn well be IN a mastermind! I’ve been getting tremendous training over the last 7 months, as well as the opportunity to participate in a monthly mastermind with some amazing, intelligent, caring, generous people.

How Masterminds Work

During our masterminds, one person comes with a particular challenge or goal they need help with. The group then asks clarifying questions and makes suggestions to the person on the “hot seat.”
Goals
What’s powerful about this process is that each member of the mastermind brings their own knowledge, experience and resources to serve and support the person on the hot seat. And inevitably, the sharing of ideas helps many of us in the group too because we frequently have had the same challenges.

In between the monthly sessions, we’ve been paired up with different members of the mastermind. Each week, we check in with our buddies and hold each other accountable in taking action toward our goals. This has been a huge benefit because we’ve gotten to know one another on a personal and professional level. We’re helping each other and connecting on a deeper level. I can honestly say that I have made some lifelong friends as a result of this process, which is priceless to me. And here’s why…

Why I Believe in the Power of Masterminds for Solopreneurs

As I said at the start of this article, 2016 was a crazy, roller coaster year of emotions for me. I traveled across the country several times to attend different workshops for my business. Each time I went out west, whether to California, Las Vegas or Dallas, I made time to stop in Tucson, Arizona to visit my older sister. She was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in July of 2015 and spent last year undergoing chemotherapy treatments.

Oh yeah – I almost forgot. As if that wasn’t enough to keep me busy, I was also promoting my Web to Wealth Summit, which was scheduled to take place in Cocoa Beach, Florida in October. Then Hurricane Matthew came and we had to postpone the event a couple of weeks, since the venue had to be evacuated for the storm (luckily, they only experienced minor water damage.) I then had to postpone the event again because my sister had been admitted to the hospital and her condition was pretty grim. I immediately flew out to Tucson to be with her. (The Web to Wealth Summit finally took place a month ago!)

Long story short, my sister lost her battle with cancer days after Christmas. If you’ve ever lost a close family member, you know how difficult that can be. This is where the power of the mastermind comes in. These people have become like a second family to me. They have been there for me, providing comfort, support and encouragement when I needed it most. It made a terrible time just a little more bearable because of their love and care.
