But first I want to bring her on to the stage and welcome you officially, Jennifer to Live Love Engage.
Oh, thank you so much, Grace. It is so wonderful to be here and just be with your audience and in our conversation and see what comes through today. Very tall order you put out there.
Well, you know, we don’t slack around here at Live Love Engage. You know, we’re, we’re, we’re all about helping, helping folks to live fully, love deeply and engage authentically, which is what I always say at the end of the show, but we’re just slipping it in there already. So as I mentioned, this is all of this what we’re talking about today. You know, getting rid of fear and doubt, taking inspired action. It’s, this is stuff I really, it’s my, it’s my jam and I know it’s yours too. And I thought before we kind of get into a little bit more of your story, I was wondering if you could explain for our lovely audience out there, what’s the difference between inspired action and just normal everyday regular action? Haha. No pun intended. Which I just realized.
Inspired action and everyday action. Okay, yeah, that’s a good question. A really good question. There’s so many different ways that we can talk about action and how we act and what we get on with in our day. Just a little play on words there. Inspired action though is really not doing any real movement, making any big decisions unless it comes through your inspiration Your creativity, your guidance system, your inner truth of what you’re meant to be doing out in this world and how to show up for that. When we take like our everyday, normal action, it’s very habitual, right? We just go through things without even really thinking about it that much. We’re on autopilot. We’re doing it often through fear or obligation or guilt or just to meet a certain expectations or to be able to check it off our to do list. It’s more goal oriented. It’s more in our mind, you know, what we think we should do or shouldn’t do and how we’re going to, you know, meet all of those little boxes that are on our to do list. Inspired action is really moving us forward into our bigger vision, the bigger picture of who we are and why we’re here and being able to step into that sacred responsibility, to be able to transform from the inside out and then taking the actions that inspires us in that direction. Does that make a little more sense?
It does. And I think I would just add as well because you mentioned, you know, the regular answer is kind of more of our mind. So I think inspired action is more what are you feeling in your heart? So I think it’s like what is your, what is your heart calling you to do? And when you can start following that, it’s much, you know, the normal action, you know, we have to do. There’s lots of stuff we need to do. But I think, but I think when you’re following your heart and doing that more aligned, aligned action, that’s about or inspired action, I should say, well, it is more aligned.
Then maybe that’s what ends up happening. And you’re right, it’s really about freeing your spirit to direct the life that you’re meant to live. So it doesn’t come so much from the head. The head operates and creates the actions that are needed for what spirit wants for our life. Right where we feel most alive, where we have the most impact. And so it’s creating the space for that by just centering in, anchoring into our light and moving in the direction that best supports the bigger vision that we have.
Yeah, absolutely. So was there a time in your journey perhaps where you maybe fear was maybe almost holding you back, but taking inspired action kind of maybe changed everything for you? And, and if so, how did that work out?
Absolutely. Absolutely. A really big fear actually, because I feared for my life. There was a moment when I felt the call to really step into my calling and to be able to put Myself out there online to become an entrepreneur, moving out of, you know, the more corporate career kind of life, working with what I went to school for, basically for over 20 years, and then deciding that that wasn’t working for me anymore at the same time that I was leaving a marriage that became very destructive and abusive, and. And my. My husband at the time didn’t want to see me grow and be out in the world in a big way. And he threatened that, you know, that wouldn’t happen, that he would take my life if I had left him. And I did choose to leave the marriage and recognizing that he no longer had the capacity to love me in the way that he had first intended. And, you know, that was a whole story of its own. But the turning point was my call to be the person that I came here to be, to be, not the person that, you know, he tried to degrade me into being and moving beyond what other people thought about all of that, about being in that relationship, about leaving that relationship, about putting myself out there and, you know, what might seem like abandoning my career and my vocation, you know, what I went to school for and all of that, and really following that call, trusting that my purpose, my drive was stronger and more powerful than anything threatening it beyond the fear, and transforming that fear, really into freedom, you know, by making that decision, by stepping boldly forward and trusting that I was going to be okay, that it was safe for me to do this, that this was what I was meant to be doing. And that was following the inspiration, the call to go out and do it anyway. And I’m really, really, really glad I did. And here I am almost, you know, how about almost 20 years now? I think 15, 20 years that. And I’m still here. So it all worked out okay, thankfully. But it was a really huge fear that was very real. But it wasn’t as real as my drive, my purpose, my call to. To do what I came here to do, you know? Yeah.
Yeah, well, I applaud you for doing that. And I’m imagining someone out in the audience is going, okay, sure, yeah, that seems really scary. How the heck do I. You know, maybe I am feeling this calling to step out and. And. Or. Or even to, you know, get out of a relationship, because a lot of women, they wind up staying in those relationships, even though they know, you know, the signs are there, and, you know, they maybe even have family and friends who are, like, encouraging them, but. But there’s a lot of fear. So what. How did you overcome that fear?
I called in My help, my helpers. I called in being able to trust myself in my ability to handle anything that came my way. And seeing time and time again that with every safe and aligned step that I took forward, I was protected and realized that truth was my protection. What was real was me continuing to step forward and to know that the universe light source creator has my back always. The ancestors that have come before us have our back. Our guides and angels have our back. We’re never alone. And I was led to people right here in this earth and, you know, very tangible people, very real humans to be able to support me as well. I found the healing that I needed. I found the empowering empowerment that came through continuously making decisions step by step, inch by inch, that led me into becoming more and more myself again. To discover more parts of myself, to step fully into how I was expressing myself in, in a more. In almost like a sovereign way, you know, was a very humbling experience because as a counselor for so many years, I actually learned how to become vulnerable and strong at the same time. To not be one or the other or to show off, facade or have a mask on, but to embrace all of those parts of me and to feel and become whole again. And that’s really what balance or alignment is about for me is, you know, really living our truth.
Yeah.
And it’s not just relationships, it’s also the job, like moving beyond expectations that other people have for us, learning not to conform, which puts us in a place of performing and rather to really find out what’s true for us and to honor that when we honor that we’re fully supported in that always.
Yeah. And you, you mentioned something right at the beginning. Your answer, which I just want to circle back and make sure people were aware to is aware of, I should say, is that you were taking steps and, and it’s like each step gave you a little bit more confidence to continue going through. Is that, is that correct?
Absolutely. And it’s like Rumi says, right? The way when you start on the way the way appears, so you’re not going to see the future and how it’s all laid out. And a lot of us really want that we’re attached to certain key and it gives us a sense of security. And it only becomes clearer once you start taking those steps one step at a time.
Yeah, it’s so important to do that. Yes, it really does. It gets you in momentum. And so. And then I actually, I was having this discussion with someone earlier today that it’s like when you do step out of your comfort zone. And when you do take a risk, then if it, you know, if it really is something that is, you know, part of your calling, that again, universe, source or whatever seems to reward you and that it will open up other doors for you or it’ll give you the resources like you mentioned, you. You wound up having, you know, finding some other supportive people there in your community to help you. And. And so I think that’s a really important thing for that I want people to get. Is that just start somewhere, start wherever you are and just take that first step, like you said, because it’s. That first step is going to open up another step and another step. Because you didn’t learn to walk, you know, right out of the crib, you had to take those steps and you fell. Sometimes, you know, we did. We’re riding a bike. Same thing. You know, I mean, there may be some kids who maybe are really, really amazing, but most kids will, you know, take a little thing and then fall and then you. Then you go again, and that’s okay. Have you found that there are any other, maybe particular practices or things that have been really helpful for you or maybe even working with your clients to really kind of quell that fear a little bit and. Or some of the resistance we do have that. That can come up from time to time. So when we know, you know, where we are being called somewhere, but it’s like, do I really want to do this?
Yeah. Part of it is recognizing the growth in that, you know, when we’re feeling uncomfortable, when we’re having doubt, when we’re having fear, we’re recognizing that something’s not quite right, something’s not aligned, and that there’s something propelling us into the more aligned path. Right. And shining light on what’s needed to be released. For example. I also thought it was pretty great, Grace, when you mentioned about momentum, because when we’re moving forward, we’re going to be met with resistance. And that resistance can come from the outside. It can also come from the inside. And that resistance is what actually happens. Right. It’s when we’re having momentum, when we’re moving forward, we create resistance. That’s what actually happens. It’s. It’s a universal law. And so if you’re being met with. For some of the resistance, then you know that you’re on the right path, you’re gaining some momentum there, and the fears will come up and you can move from that space. It’s gonna keep us small. It’s gonna keep us living a mediocre life. Or you get to choose to come from a place of love which is very expansive and very lit up. It makes us feel alive, it’s joyful, it brings us all of those people, places and opportunities that we need to be able to shine in more of that light. And so there’s always comes a choice. Every moment of every day, we’re making decisions, conscious or not. So the more conscious we can become, then the more aligned we can be to what is true and most meaningful for us. So some of the practices, you know, some of the more practical, practical practices are when we, you know, really tune into what we value, what are our values? How can we live from that place? How do we align our to do list with our to be list so that we can take the most aligned action that supports towards the direction that we’re moving in? So you can look at those different values to become more conscious, to become more aware and actually create that space is by. For me, going for retreats, going for refuge, taking some time to have some actual downtime, you know, it’s impossible. Well, it’s not that impossible, but it really burns us out. If we’re on all the time, we need to switch off every now and then. And that was a hard lesson for me because I’m like the eneragizer bunny, right? That’s what they called me, not the energizer. But it’s really taking that time for ourselves. Getting to know yourself really well. Maybe that’s through journaling, maybe that’s through workshops. Maybe that’s going through different webinars. Learning new things, expanding your mind, expanding your heart. Exp. By doing the things that you love to do. Maybe going out in nature like I do, or going for a walk or getting together with friends. For some, it’s like wanting to be out. If you’re more extroverted, your energy comes from being social and getting out there and interacting with people. For introverts, it’s more about regaining our energy and our downtime and nature and animals and that sort of thing. So paying attention to where your energy is replenished, noticing when it’s drained, and making choices that support you in living your best life. Become more aware of that. Meditation, centering practices, grounding practices, all of that are available. There’s so many apps, you know, that are available inside timer, so I’m partial to that one. There’s lots of talks and meditations and live events and courses and things that, you know, gather people that are seeking that out that want to nourish their spirit. Because Grace, I mean we are spiritual beings having this human experience. So doesn’t it make sense to focus and prioritize our spiritual well being? What keeps our spirit intact? You know, what kind of things help you Grace?
Well, you’ve mentioned several of them already and you know, definitely being out in nature journaling. I love to journal. I do spend time meditating. I, I, that’s like my non negotiable in the morning. Even if I only have 10 minutes, it’s like I’m going to make sure that I have that quiet time. And I, I couple things that you’ve talked about and what you know, and I love you know the idea of doing things like you know, retreats and, and you know, and attending group programs and things like that. But before I go there, there was one thing I you just said and I again you have these little nuggets and I just want to grab ahold of them to to you talked about to do versus to be. Mm. And, and I think we get especially as entrepreneurs, I think you know, we just get caught up in that. Do do, do you know. I’m not talking about that, you know. Yeah yeah. Not talking about what our pets are doing but, but you know, as opposed to focusing more on how do we want to be and then let that direct then what we’re gonna do in the world. Do you, do you want to piggyback on that a little bit?
Yeah. Like what do you want to experience? How do you want to feel? That is kind of the why we do what we do. Right. To get to a certain feeling not so much about having to gain something, but what it is it that you really want to experience and how do you want to show up in the world? Who do you want to be and take the inspired action to become that person.
Yeah. Very good. I love that. So the other reason that I’m so excited to be talking with you today and so full disclosure here is that Jennifer and I have. We’ve got an ulterior motive for being for, for appearing together today is that worry are teaming up to offer a retreat designed to help you to live your light and, and be able to take that inspired action a little bit. But since this was actually your brainchild and you, you, you lovingly invited me to, to join you. But I would love for you to share a little bit about, you know. Yeah. Just a little bit about it. Maybe what even inspired you and what people can can get out of it if they, if they decide to join us and I hope they will.
Lighting the path. Right? To illuminate your path and to really live your light. And when we look at the acronym of light, it’s living in God’s highest truth. And really that’s living in your highest truth. What’s the highest contribution you can make and what’s the route, the path that you need to take to get there. We’re going to be illuminating all of that for you. We have some real down to earth practical tools and we’re also calling in the cosmic intelligence with Grace’s light language visualizations to really support you in who you want to be, what you want to experience and what it is really that you’re doing here. What’s going to have the meaningful impact on others to be able to make a difference, to make the world better in some way. And it’s really imperative at this time to focus on that. To focus your time, energy and intention on being a lot more present with what’s presenting for you in your life right now and what you’re going to choose to do with the gifts that are being given to you or that have been given to you. How will you honor that? So it’s really about how to live your light and how to illuminate the path forward. So we’re going to be doing that, co creating it together. Grace and I will help facilitate that. And it’s really the group energy, the environment, the sacred space that’s created and we’re going to be even going into what a sacred space looks like. So creating more space inward around you and for the kind of life that you truly want to be living.
Yeah. And I’m, I’m so excited to, to be able to do this with you and I, I really feel that it’s going to be so transformative for the people who decide to join us because it is, you know, it’s think of it as giving yourself a gift of a few hours. It is on a Saturday in, in fact so it won’t even, you know, as long as you are someone who works on the weekends, you know, you’re going to be, you’ll have an opportunity to give yourself this opportunity to, to connect with other like minded, wonderful people and to be able to. Yeah. Really, really have that time for yourself to look within and, and with the supportive tools and, and practices that we’re going to be sharing. So I’m, I’m super excited about it and I will have the link for more information to that into the, the show notes as well. As for on YouTube, you’ll have it in the description as well, but I really encourage you to, to check it out. And it’s coming up on April 5, 2025. So, yeah, we’d love to see you there. We could, we could go on and on talking about this, but let’s. Well, maybe we’ll, we’ll put a one more plug in at the end. But I still want to talk with you about, about all this stuff because I think it, I think it will be helpful for people to really understand, perhaps even why they need to register. So. So what have you found to be maybe the most common mindset block, let’s say, that holds entrepreneurs or even anyone back from, from taking that inspired action?
The mind block is, I would liken it to a fog, really dense, heavy energy that clouds our vision that we kind of want to hide behind or that makes us hide and we can’t really see our way. We’re just kind of feeling around it or trying to like, get through it, knowing what we know. But it’s like constricting as well, and it’s tight. And you can imagine yourself trying to drive or walk through the fog. You kind of know where you’re going. You don’t really know where you’re going. And when you look at fog as an acronym, it’s fear, obligation, and guilt. And those three qualities are so heavy that it can have the same effect as a fog. It’s dense. We kind of know where we’re going, but we don’t really know where we’re going. And we’re just tightly winding our way through all of that, learning how to navigate that. And that’s the block. It’s kind of foggy, you know, in our mind, in our head, and not really clear. And so it creates confusion, it can create chaos, it’s creates uncertainty. And who wants to be in that space, really? Right. And so we want to be able to navigate our way through that and really be driven by our passion and our purpose. And I love how my guides had shared with me that passion is more than just this energy that we conjure up. It’s really your calling. And when you break up that word, it’s pass I on. That eye is your soul’s expression of what you’re here to pass on in this lifetime. And through the light language, through the practices, experiences we take you through, this is going to be illuminated. Yes. It’s going to bring it to light. It’s going to help it become more tangible, more real for you. And I Mean, the three hours you spend in this retreat, which is virtual, by the way, so it’s really open to anyone who has a computer or laptop and a WI fi that you’ll get so much of your time and time back, you’ll get, gain more of a sense of peace, of knowing and be able to trust yourself again. You know, in business, they often talk about, you know, becoming someone that they know like and trust. This is an opportunity to know, like, and trust yourself.
Oh, yeah, that’s so important. And. And I’m going to add here because I know some. Someone might be wondering what. How do you kind of. What makes you get into that fog? And I’m going to just share for me, because I could relate to that. And I love. I love how you do acronyms. That’s so cool. I mean, I have one. I have my love method, which is one as well. But for me, it was losing my sister to cancer. And so going through that grief process, you know, I was. My business at the time, had been doing copywriting, and I wasn’t feeling as passionate about that anymore. And I was feeling this calling that I needed to do something more. But I was still confused. And, you know, fear was probably playing into it because it’s like, oh, well, what does that mean? That means I might have to do something different. I’ve been doing this now for several years. You know, what’s gonna happen? Have you found, you know, are there other maybe triggers that can cause someone to be into that fog where they’re not, you know, where they do feel like they’re stuck? Have you seen any other reasons other than grief? Because I think grief is definitely one that will cause it.
Yeah, it would. And trying to. People, please. Trying to be perfect, you know, the need for certain needs that we mean may or may not be aware of, like the need for approval, for validations, the need for acceptance, to be loved, to be seen, to be heard. You know, all of these needs that we feel that we might be lacking in or deficient in. Not good enough. You know, it’s the worst false belief, I think, out there is this idea that we’re not enough. And that can come through in every area of our lives, truly, you know, not enough money, not enough friends, not enough in our relationships, not enough in our work, and not enough time and not enough energy. And, you know, the list goes on and on and on. And the truth is that we are limitless. There is limitless energy that we can tap into and we will in this retreat. And you can. When you’re in meditation, when you’re journaling, when you take that time for yourself, when you’re in the forest, when you’re doing breath work, when you’re doing a qigong practice, like I like to do, and moving your body, creating that movement, we go beyond the stagnation. Stagnation also puts you in the fog. There are so much of our life circumstances that can dispirit us, the way that we’re treated, authorities, cultural constrictions, you know, or traditions that don’t allow you to be who you truly are. And so there’s a lot that comes from society, too, and other authorities and giving our power away and. Yeah, lots of ways that we leak those energy, leak our power and end up in the fog.
Yeah, definitely. So that’s why it. Check out our retreat, because it will help you with that. Because when you can, when you gain that clarity and, you know, the practices that we’ve talked about today and some of the things, you know, that we’ll each be sharing at the retreat have certainly have helped me, and I’m sure it’s helped you as well, because here’s the thing is that, you know, fear will come back up again and, you know, resistance anytime you, you, you maybe, because sometimes you’ll feel a calling to try something new. In fact, I just went through this recently where I was. Had been doing something one way, and it was like it wasn’t really working out for me. And a friend said, you know, you seem kind of sad, Gloria. Maybe we should do it a different way. And. And she was right. And so this stuff can come up from. But when you start paying attention to yourself and you start doing practices and you attend events like we’re hosting, then it gives you some new tools to add to your tool belt so that when something like this possibly might happen again in the future, then you can go, how did I handle that the last time? Oh, yeah, that’s right. I learned that I can do xyz, and maybe that’ll help me. So I. I think it’s so good to be able to. Yeah. Continue to try new things and like I said, add more tools to your. Your spiritual toolbox.
Yeah, there’ll be tools and practices, and also by attending, it’s really a transformational experience. You won’t be the same person going out than you came in with. It’s, you know, an opportunity to raise your vibration, to get the support, to create the space that you need for that inspiration to come through and come away with some tools and practices as well. It’s really a transformational experience when we talk about retreat.
Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because it’s. It’s like I said, you’re. You will. It’s giving yourself that gift of. Of time to experience something new, which is. It’s. It’s. It’s important to do that, you know, for anytime. But it’s definitely important to do that when you’re going through something. But even, even not, because sometimes, you know, you could be perfectly happy, and yet when you try something new, it might still open something up and you’ll be like, oh, never thought about that. Thank you. So it’s all. Yeah, it’s good.
And it’s nice to have the container that we’re creating because it offers the right conditions that support you in your personal and professional growth.
Yeah, definitely. So I’m going to ask you two. Two things. Well, three things. I always do this to my guests, so number one, I’m going to just totally change gears because I love to do it. So what are you. What are you curious about right now?
I am curious about how to bring more smiles to people’s face, see people’s faces to see that sparkle come back in their eyes. For me, that’s true success, you know, is when you have that sparkle in your eye. And so I’m curious about how to bring that back, because I see like your friend saw and you recently, Grace is that sadness, you know, and the uncertainty and downtrodden and just, you know, not feeling fully alive right now. And we go through that ebb and flow for sure. You know, like I said earlier, we’re not. Can’t be on all the time. You know, that’s work back, you know, and to reignite that passion and zest for life. And I’d like. I’m curious about how we can get back to that.
I love that. And is there anything else that I should have asked you about that I didn’t? Any other last points you want to make?
You know, I don’t think so. I don’t think so. I think, yeah, there was. I didn’t really come in with any kind of agenda or anything, so something that could have been asked. And yeah, it feels pretty complete for me. Nothing lingering. But if, you know, the audience is feeling like, well, what about this? Or something, and you want some more clarity or you have questions or comments, I want to share your experience. Experience. Maybe that’ll be put in the comments and we can continue the conversation that way.
Absolutely. And. Well, but I’ll also ask you too how can people, other than checking out the retreat, if they want to, if they do want to learn more about you, where can people go to to find out?
Yeah, well, the One Hub, the one place to go to the One Stop shop would be the website that’s lightingthepath.ca. Because I’m Canadian with South African roots. But yeah, lightingthepath dot Ca, the website’s there. You’ll find out about that Leadership Sentient alliance that Grace mentioned earlier and you’ll find how to connect with me on the socials and the podcast and you’ll find the Inspired living blog on there. So everything’s right there on the website at lightingthepath.ca. And you can reach out to me there, too. There’s a link for that in the tabs in the menu there. And you can certainly do that if you’d like to connect or ask questions or share something. You can always reach out.
I love it. Yes. And, and yes, you are a podcaster too. And you, you actually had me on your show recently as well. So, so we’re, we’re trading, trading hats here today. So I have my interview hat on and last time you were interviewing me, so it’s all good.
Yeah. So if you want more of us, you can check that out on Awaken and Ascend.
Absolutely. And I’ll put the link to that in the show notes too, because we, we talked about different things. And so this way you’ll get a nice rounded. I can’t think of the word, but that’s okay. You’ll get a perspective.
That’ll be good.
That’s a good word. We’ll use perspective. All right, well, thank you so much for joining me today and I look forward to joining you the next time when, when we get together and, and host this lovely retreat.
So, yeah, I’m excited.
No, me too. And I do want to thank all of you for joining us today and make sure that you do check out the show notes and you’ll have other information there. And if you’re not subscribed, I hope you’ll subscribe to. Subscribe to the podcast on your favorite podcast platform, or you can subscribe on YouTube. And until next time, as always, as I mentioned at the beginning, I encourage you to go out and live fully, love deeply and engage authentically.
