Pinterest can be a very powerful marketing tool for your business, if it’s used correctly. Now that the social networking site is allowing company pages, it’s more important than ever to make sure you’re not making mistakes that could cost you followers and potential leads for your product or service.
1. Failing to Optimize Profile– Take advantage of the “about” section to describe the value of your business using keywords. Also, be sure to visit the Settings page and click on the “verify website” button, so you can have a live link on your profile. (You can tell when a site is verified by the red checkmark next to the URL)
2. Failing to Link to Facebook/Twitter – Leverage the power of your other social media presences by including links to your Facebook and/or Twitter accounts.
4. Failing to Optimize Pins – Pinterest marketing works best when you pin attention-grabbing images, include a well-written keyword description on each pin, and embed a link that drives traffic to your desired destination – your website, blog or even YouTube channel.
5. Pinning at the Wrong Time – As with any social networking site, you’ll reach the most people if you’re active when they are. Pinterest users are most active on Saturdays – so carve out a little time on your weekend to take advantage of this fact. If you’d rather take a break on the weekend, then the optimal time during the week is to pin between 2pm – 4pm EST or 8pm – 1am EST.
6. Failing to Engage – It’s not as easy to engage people in conversation on Pinterest as it is on Facebook or Twitter, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try. Like, repin and comment on images belonging to your prospects, clients and strategic partners. When someone repins your content, visit the pin and thank them in the comments.
7. Failing to Track and Tweak – Ensuring a successful marketing campaign comes down to tracking and measuring your efforts, and then tweaking your content for the best impact. Using link shorteners like budurl or bitly, as well as services like Pinreach and Google Analytics can help you track where your clicks are coming from.
If you can avoid making these mistakes on Pinterest, you can gain the upper hand on your competitors who aren’t maximizing this popular social networking tool for their business.
