TRANSCRIPT

Namaste. What kind of money mindset do you have? Positive one that empowers women entrepreneurs to make smart decisions, set clear goals, and achieve sustainable growth. I hope so. However, if money isn’t quite flowing into your business or your life the way you’d like, it may be due to an abundance wound. So today we’re going to be examining the stories that can block financial success and help you heal that abundance wound. And we’re going to be talking about what it looks like. So in case you think you don’t have it, you may start to think otherwise. Possibly. I hope not. But first, as always, I want to welcome you to Live Love Engage, especially if this is your first time. Joining us, I am Gloria Grace, founder of Align to Shine Academy, and I empower women over 50 to overcome life’s challenges so they can embrace who they are, lead boldly, and shine their light in the world.

So what the heck is an abundance wound anyway? Well, it is a deep seated belief that you’re not worthy of financial abundance. And it’s really rooted in this belief that there’s not enough or even more fundamentally, that I’m not enough. And I can relate to this one because I definitely, I definitely have had that come up in my life. I mean it definitely when I started, first started my business way back in 2009 and, and I wrote about this in my book Live Love Engage, that I discovered that I had a lot of like, limiting beliefs around money and, and in researching and you know, getting ready for this episode, also just sort of reminding myself of how that showed up for me.

So let’s talk about that a little bit. So it can be financially, of course it can show up with patterns like compulsive spending or on the other side, excessive saving, maybe a fear of investing, you know, getting into the stock market, or it’s that constant sense of financial instability even when that’s not how your life actually is or maybe circumstances have improved. Maybe it was that way at one time, but not anymore. And there can also be some, emotionally, it can show up as feelings of shame or guilt or fear around money and abundance and it’s often triggered by early experiences or family attitudes. And again, I’ll, I’ll say for, from my experience growing up that my mom definitely had, was, was always feeling like we didn’t have enough and she would rely on her mom to be able to help her out, to help our family out financially. And even though both my mom and dad worked and, and they did, and, and this is even in the 70s and then not many, not as many women were in the workforce. So, you know, they were working full time. And. And as my beloved sister, who’s not with us anymore, used to. Used to needle me about. Is that you were. You were spoiled. Glor. I was like. And I realize now that, well, in a lot of ways, I mean, I did have some traumatic things in my childhood, but overall, I had dance lessons. In fact, my mom quit smoking to help pay for my dance lessons. I was in Girl Scouts. I had guitar lessons, I had organ lessons. So, you know, and then later on, my mom bought tickets to Broadway shows. We. We would have, you know, those, Those plans where you get, you know, what is the word? I can’t think of it like packet and whatever. A package of shows that we would go to. So we were middle class for sure. We weren’t. I mean, yes, during the. There was a recession in the 70s where we were eating a lot of Hamburger Helper, which I did not like, and we had to keep the thermostat turn down low in the winter. I grew up in Michigan because it was expensive to run the furnace, so we would have to, you know, layer up on clothes and put. We had. Luckily we had in. In one room of our house, we had a fireplace, so we would, you know, put a log in the fire and stay warm that way. But it’s still. There was a lot of this stuff that showed up.

And so in particular for. For women, let’s say over 50, that a lot of times we might have internalized, you know, traditional gender roles, and that leads to. Can lead to guilt or hesitation around prioritizing their own ambitions, you know, whether it is working or. Or starting a business or, you know, spending family resources on their business, even if they’re financially secure. And they may also have to grieve the lack of support from previous generations, and they’re consciously going out and trying to choose new supportive communities. Now. Younger women, and I know sometimes we do have some younger women listening to this podcast, you may find that that abundance wound manifests as guilt over investing time and money in your business at the perceived expense of family needs. Or you might just, you know, again, as we get older, we do tend to be a little bit more financially secure. But when you’re younger, you know, you’re trying to pay for a house, you’re trying to raise kids, you know, there’s not as much necessarily disposable income, so you may tend to overwork in your business or, or again, you’re not feeling worthy and you might suffer from imposter syndrome. So there’s a lot, there’s a lot that can happen here that can really, you know, bring up these issues around money where, where we don’t feel like we have enough.

And, and a lot of too is, you know, there’s a lot of common money stories that especially. And again, I think I’m hoping. I know, I tried with my kids, I think, not to repeat these stories, hopefully, and they’re doing pretty well. So I think, I think we’re okay. But I know for, let’s say, baby boomers in particular, and maybe Gen X possibly, I forget which generation came after, I guess Gen X. But you might have heard things like money doesn’t grow on trees or you got to work hard for every penny. In fact, there’s a lovely, you know, there was the old Huey Lewis and the new song. You know, you work hard for the money. So hard for the money. You know, we hear these things. It comes through. Oh, and in fact, even I’m thinking about it, it’s not even from. We hear money stories in our culture. It’s not even just even in our family, but you’ll hear story, you know, songs, TV shows, you know, all kinds of stuff. Now, I know that I think a lot of people who listen to this podcast or watch it on YouTube are also probably spiritual, Spiritual entrepreneurs. And so there’s a lot of. There’s some limiting beliefs around that too. You know, stories like spiritual people shouldn’t care about money where it’s not spiritual to make a lot of money. And that’s why a lot of spiritual entrepreneurs struggle, frankly, because they, they want to be able to just give their services away and not be compensated enough, you know, or. Or it’s selfish to want more when others have less. That. That goes along also with that spiritual thinking or even for older, you know, folks, I’m, I’m. I’m too old to start over financially. Get that one out right now. You’re never too old to start over. Oh, my gosh, that’s ridiculous.

But anyway, I want to mention right now that I would encourage you to go back and whether you’re watching this on YouTube, go back and check previous episodes, or if you’re listening to this on Apple or something. A few weeks ago, I had a wonderful interview with Michael Ann Volterra, and she’s also deals with money, and she talked about a concept called noble poverty. Noble poverty. And so we, we both agree that money is energy or form of energy. But I, I want to share this with you, but then also go back in and re. Watch that episode, listen to that episode because there’s of a lot, a lot of good information in there. But I’m gonna, I’m, I’m focusing today on, on this abundance wound and how to heal it. But she, we went into, we covered a lot of stuff, but anyway, she says that, you know, when we constantly give without receiving, it creates an imbalance. And she said that she likes to think of it as a receiving valve and sometimes it gets stuck and we become over givers. But being an over giver isn’t healthy because this is, you know, this is what can lead to burnout and self sacrifice or even martyrdom. And we wouldn’t want our loved ones to live that way. So why are we accepting it for ourselves, for heaven’s sakes? So it often comes down to whether or not we truly believe we deserve to receive. And so again, this ties into those deeper issues of self worth, which is not the same as net worth, which is your money. So, but it is just important. So again, I really encourage you to check out that episode because this, yeah, this concept of noble poverty. And like I said, I mean, I know I’ve, I’ve had to get over it myself and, and one thing I want to talk about actually too is the fact that we really do need to get over this, especially for spiritual entrepreneurs.

But actually anybody who has this abundance wound, because you’re doing not only yourself and your family and your business and your clients a disservice by not having money and by not being as successful as you’d like to be, then you’re also unable to then share that wealth in the world. Because again, I know I’m, I’m quite confident that if you’re listening to this podcast, that you are a heart centered person, whether you’re a spiritual entrepreneur or not. You’ve got a big heart, I’m sure of it. And the more money you make, the more money you can invest and, you know, the more money that you can make, then guess what? The more money you have to give away to donate to your favorite nonprofit organization to share that wealth to be able to then maybe help out some clients who are financially challenged themselves, let’s say, because sometimes, and I was working with a coach one time who, you know, a lot of coaches will say that, well, yeah, you got to charge a lot of money for your services. You know, don’t be afraid of that because it really does help to. What’s the word? I want to Say, really perceive you more as an expert and. As opposed to, you know, and as someone. What do I want to say who, who really knows their stuff. Yeah, well, what. That’s kind of what an expert is, isn’t it? Yeah. Okay. Anyway, well, you’re. You’re perceived as higher quality. Yeah. You know, you know, you’re the Nordstrom of the world as opposed to Walmart or the dollar. And where was I going with this point? And I just lost my train of thought, but it will come back to me. Okay, Okay. I remember now the point I was trying to make. I was working with a coach one time and, and he. I know a lot of people, as I said, you know, a lot of people say, well, you got it, you know, charge, you know, really, do not be afraid, let’s put it that way.

Don’t be afraid to raise your rates regularly. Don’t be afraid to charge a higher premium for your services. And I had a coach who also said that he, yes, he believed in that. And he also would allow himself to use his intuition and to not necessarily have fixed prices for everybody. So if he was, let’s say, doing a discovery call with someone and he really felt that he could help them, but they were, they were really in a position to not pay the full price that he, you know, for his services, then he would make an exception. And so it is okay to do that. You just don’t want to start the bar so low. So you want to be able to have some flexibility in your pricing of your services. And definitely don’t be afraid to stretch yourself a little bit in what you’re charging because it should make you feel a little bit uncomfortable. Not too much, you don’t want to go crazy, but a little bit uncomfortable and see how things go. And so, for instance, if you’ve been charging a certain price for a long time, and again, this is something that I cover in my book where I talked about when I first started my business. I was doing copywriting and I had a lovely client who I was writing blog articles for. And I worked for her for years. Quite a. Quite a while. Quite a long while. And she was very happy, and she was very happy with my work. That’s why she continued to hire me every, you know, every year. But it took me about three years before I finally, after listening to another webinar and, and hearing that, oh, I should be raising my rates. Oh, duh. So I finally said, yeah, I’ve gotta. I gotta put in a price increase. And they’re like, oh, okay. And I’m like, so raise your rates every year. You know, other companies do. Doesn’t have to be a lot. Maybe you raise it 5% or something or maybe even just 2%, whatever. But don’t be afraid to raise your rates.

Okay, let’s talk a little bit more about now. In particular, how or what can happen, especially for if you’re a little bit older out there. You know, let’s say you’re a woman entrepreneur, you’re over 50 and you’re listening to this podcast. There are some things that happen as we get older in our lives that can maybe, maybe you’ve been fine with your money story. You know, you’ve had, you’ve had a great money story up until something happens. And those things can be things like now you’re an empty nester and you’re not sure what to do with yourself now. You know, you’ve been this great mom and now your kids have flown the coop and they don’t need you quite as much. They still need you. Your adult kids still need you. Don’t, don’t ever, don’t ever doubt that. And they don’t need you quite as much.

So, so you have to kind of figure out, okay, well, what do I want to do now in this next chapter of my life? Sometimes you go through things like a divorce or separation or, you know, possibly even losing a spouse to death. And so that is gonna, that can shake things up. Maybe, you know, if you’ve been, if you have been in the corporate world for a long time and now your position is no longer needed, you know, they like to, I like to make cutbacks. In fact, there’s been a lot of that over the last few years. A lot of layoffs or you’re concerned about retirement. Do I really have enough money to survive? And let’s face it, we’re, you know, we live a lot longer. Even though I know there’s been some talk about the, the, our longevity, especially here in the United States, is not quite as good as it used to be, but we’re still, you know, the traditional retirement age used to be 65, but most women in particular are going to live to live until their 80s, maybe 90s. And so you need to make sure that you’ve got income to be able to sustain that. So that can help it. That can affect, you know, kind of bring up this abundance wound again because now you’re really, you know, focusing in on money and, you know, health scares can reshape your priorities. Maybe you’re caging caring for aging parents while you’re still perhaps supporting your adult kids some way. So all these things, like I said, if you, if you haven’t experienced issues with money in the past, these things sometimes can bring them up.

So I just want you to be aware of them and I want you to be aware of how not only this shows up, let’s say, in your business, as we talked about earlier, can also show up in your body. Our bodies can hold on to these money stories and it can create some financial, well, financial stress can then affect your body and, or if you’re working too hard or things like this, it can really affect you and it can show up as, you know, your chest tightening or you’ve got tension headaches or you’ve got digestive issues. So it’s important to be aware of physical symptoms. And especially if, let’s say, you’ve been going, going around, going on, carrying on in your life and all of a sudden you start having issues like this, some sort of physical symptoms. So I encourage you to, before rushing to the doctor or even rushing to get a pill or something, is to stop and get quiet for a little bit and talk to your body and say, hey, what are you trying to tell me here? And you could spend some time meditating on it, you could journal about it. But I really, really encourage you to look within first before you look without. Now, of course, if you’ve got a splitting headache, go ahead, reach for Excedrin, but if it starts to become a pattern, I am, you know, you do want to go see a doctor. So also, and, but also look at the, look at what, what’s going on with you emotionally because it could be that your emotions are what is triggering this. And so I, well, what was I going to say? Yeah, I encourage you to. And I know there’s some people out there who are firmly, 100% are good with the Western medicine system and fine, you know, you can definitely go there and get help, get some of these symptoms treated. But Western medicine is really good at treating symptoms, not necessarily getting to the underlying cause. So once you’ve got your symptoms handled, yeah, that’s what I want to tell you. Get your symptoms handled, get them under control and then, yeah, then you can start looking into, okay, what is going on? Have I changed my eating habits? Are my sleeping habits different? And if so, why? Am I working long hours? Am I staying up on the computer until midnight every night instead of stopping at like 9 o’ clock at night and then maybe just reading for an hour? Or two, what’s going on in my business, what’s going on with my personal life. Look at that. And then when you can do this.

And again, I love journaling is a great, great way to come to terms with this. And, and, and what I would recommend you do is just, you know, as, as I said is like just say, okay, body, what are you trying to tell me? What. And, and just keep writing, you know, that, you know, or higher self, what do you. What is going on with my body? Why am I suddenly having these symptoms? What could possibly be going on in my life that is causing this? And I’m telling you, even if you don’t know what to say. And it’s like, I don’t understand. I don’t know why I’m having these symptoms. It’s very frustrating. I just, I don’t like feeling this way and I really would like to be able to fix it. And I wonder if, oh, and then all of a sudden an idea will come to you and you’ll be like, oh, maybe it’s because that, that client that I had for so many years suddenly said, I can’t, I can’t work with you anymore. And that could be a shock to the system. And you can be like, and you can, and you could be in fact grieving that. And that’s okay to grieve that. So it’s, it’s allowing yourself to be aware of these things. So those are great ways to do that and, and talk kindly to yourself and, and, and soothe yourself. And it’s, you know, you are your best friend. You know, the only person who truly, truly knows you the best is you. So get to know yourself. I’m gonna say spend time writing, thinking, even, even just sitting and being quiet. You know, not necessarily even meditating, but just sit in a chair and look outside, you know, window for a little bit and just allow yourself time to breathe. Breathing, Breathing is another good thing too. There’s, there’s, you know, different breathing modalities and things. You can Google them and find out things to do or work with a certified breathwork practitioner. I know that I have, I have a friend who does that. And so there’s, there’s people out there who can help you with that. That might be a good way to help you to release some of the finance, the stress and, and to heal these money wounds and, and so enter. Energetic treatments are really great. You know, things like even. Things like acupuncture or EFT tapping, you know, where you’re tapping on different parts of your body. And I’m. I know it works great. For some reason it doesn’t resonate with me. The other things that I’ve talked about, meditation and journaling are things that really resonate with me as well as something that I do, I’ve been doing for the last five years now, which is channeling light language. And that has made a huge difference in my life as well as my clients of being able to release old stories, release energetic blocks around money that are keeping, keeping me stuck, keeping, keeping others stuck.

So I thought what I do right now before I. I’m going to give you some other, other suggestions on how to manage this abundance wound as well in a moment. But about what I do right now is take a little break and share with you light language, especially if you have never experienced it before. So let me give you a little bit. I’ll just give you a little the what’s the word? Cheat. Cheat sheet version of what light language is. It’s, it’s essentially, it’s a, it’s a multi dimensional form of human communication if I can communicate well. So it’s a multi dimensional form of communication. It’s essentially, it is a language of, of love. And it is something that like I say comes from other dimensions. Some. If you go to like YouTube and search for like light language, you’ll see a lot of different people do it and they will say that it comes from, you know, galactic beings like Pleiadians or Arcturians or angels. And I know for me, I don’t know exactly where it comes from. I do know that I do feel that sometimes it is a very angelic thing. Sometimes it’s also ancestral and because some of the way that the, what I do is I will speak, speak it or sing it or both depending. And it’s, it’s a language that your left side of the brain, the logical brain is probably not going to be able to translate. I would say, I would say 99.9% of the time it’s not, you’re not going to be able to understand it. However, if you are really tuned into your right side of the brain that more that the feminine side, the more intuitive side, that’s the word I’m looking for, then you might be able to understand what I share with you. Either way, the important thing is that the language is something that speaks to your heart and your soul and, and, and it’s a, it’s a frequency. You know, anytime we speak, I’m, I’m the words I’m speaking to you right now carry a frequency. And so when I channel light language that is carrying a frequency and that’s what is healing about it. So I encourage you right now to, if you’re listening to this somewhere where you are driving a car, to pause the podcast and come back to it a little bit or speed past it and then, and then like I said, to listen to the rest and then come back to this later. Because what I would encourage you to do is to listen with an open heart and an open mind and possibly close your eyes. So that’s why I don’t want you driving a car while you’re listening to this because it’s also, whenever I’ve, I’ve done this with clients, they, they find it very relaxing. And so I don’t want you to be too relaxed while you’re driving, when you’re operating machinery. Okay. Or if you’re on the treadmill or something. So do this later, come back to this later. So what I will encourage you to do and what I do always is I am encouraging and asking that the message that comes through will help to release any old abundance wounds you have and to be. For the message you receive is going to be for your soul’s highest good and the highest good of all concerned. So that’s, that’s my process and, and I encourage you to now just get your feet on the floor, get a little grounded. Close your eyes if you want. You don’t have to, but if you want. I, I find it helps. I, I often close my eyes when I’m channeling just because again it helps me to be more in tune with, with the messaging. But just, yeah, so you know, close your eyes, take a deep breath, let it out and just, yeah. Set an intention for yourself that whatever you hear is going to be for your soul’s highest good and will help you to release whatever needs to be released today.

I hope that resonated with you today. And if you would be interested in having a private session with me, you’re certainly welcome to do that because then I love working one on one with folks because then we are able to really deal with whatever your specific issue is. So you can schedule a light language session with me and if you go to bit ly, capital L, capital L, capital E lowercase podcast and then the number 30, you can schedule a 30 minute session with me and I will have that, I’ll have that in the show notes as well. So what else can we do about this? These money stories that don’t Serve us. Well, I’ll tell you one other thing that I’ve learned how to do. And again, I. I learned this from another coach who is a. A money coach. And. And she’s. She specializes. There’s the word man. Trying to. Trying to pull these words out of my brain today. A little challenging. That’s okay.

So you can rewrite your money story. Yep, yep. You can. You don’t have to say that. This is my story, and I’m sticking with it. And this is, you know, I just. Whatever. I have to deal with it. No, no, because guess what? Our brains are. We have, like, neural neuroplasticity of is. It is. Our brains are. And. And so we can rewire them with empowering stories. So what I learned how to do, and in fact, I share this in my book as well, is you can, you know, write down whatever your disempowering story is, and then you can then say, okay, well, all right, so that’s. That’s what happened. What would happen if I didn’t have that story? How would my life have been different? And then use that wonderful brain that you have, that especially the right side, that creative side, to just use your imagination and dream up what would be this wonderful outcome instead of what I did experience in the past. So let’s say for me, I’ll give you an example. So again, I had these stories of. Well, one of. One of the. One of the ones that was a bit disempowering for me in my business was that my mom really didn’t like rich people. And especially she had a brother who was an entrepreneur, and she thought he was a crook. So I grew up hearing this. And so then when I became an entrepreneur, I have this sort of war going on in my head because, you know, I want to be able to be successful. And yet at the same time, well, you know, if you get rich, then, you know, I don’t want to be a crook. I want to be a good. You know, I want to be a good person. I want to be generous. So I could instead say, my mom was so proud of her brother and that he was so generous as an entrepreneur, and she, you know, loved that he was. That he was just very successful. He gave back to his community, and he treated his employees well. And so instead I could say, well, those. Yeah, that’s. That’s how I grew up instead, hearing all these wonderful stories about entrepreneurs and how generous they can be, and then just say, okay, that’s my story. That’s my story. And I’M sticking to it, doggone it. So try that and see how that plays for you. And, and if you need to, then read that story every day for maybe three weeks or so, or at least a week to be able to get it into your brain and really start saying, yes, this is my story. I am a generous person. I am a successful, I am a profitable business owner. I have plenty of money to be able to do good things with in the world. And more is coming to me every day. Now I will say, you notice how I was a bit amped up there when I was talking about it and smiling. For those of you who are watching me on YouTube, I hope you noticed I was smiling. Emotion is a big part of this. So make sure that affirmations that are just, you know, if you’re reading it like that, yeah, I’m successful, I make a lot of money. Your brain does isn’t going to buy that at all. No, no, no way. You’ve got to use emotion. You’ve got to really feel it, believe it, feel it. Oh, I even have a, I have a shirt that says that. Something like see it, feel it, believe it. So I should have worn that for today. Darn it. Oh, well, it’s okay.

Oh, and one other thing. Cultivate an attitude of gratitude. Be grateful for however much money you have right now. Be grateful that you can put food on the table. Be grateful that, let’s say that you have employees and that you can pay your employees. Be grateful for your clients. Be grateful for the money you have in your bank. Be grateful. Be grateful. Because oh my gosh, the more that you are grateful, the more you have to be grateful for. It’s, it’s the law of attraction. It’s just reciprocity. I don’t know, but I’m telling you, gratitude goes a long way and I am so grateful for you for listening and for watching today. And I hope that you are subscribed to the podcast on your favorite platform like Apple or Spotify and that or YouTube as well. And I encourage you so if you, if you aren’t already to please subscribe on whatever platform you are on at the moment.

But because next week I have another interview so this time it is going to be with speaker and 18 times number one best selling author Cathy Dirksen. And she is going to be talking about how collaborative books can help you expand your network, build your business and increase your visibility while becoming an international best selling author. And you know, I published my own book but I also have been in a couple different collaborative books over the years. So one of them is called Conceived to Lead, and I’ve got a chapter in here. I forget what it was called. There was something about, oh, there it is. I turned right to it. It’s called Reluctant Leader, no More author Gloria Grace Rand right there. And then I was also in this one called Unscripted How Entrepreneurs Leap and Find Success. Real Life Advice from Entrepreneurs Making It Happen. And I don’t remember what my story was mine. It was something about can’t find that chapter now. Oh, well, that’s okay. Anyway, I know I’m in here, though. I know I’m in here. But anyway, these are great. Being in a collaborative book is really great because you do. You get to become a number one bestseller and hopefully the person who’s doing, who’s doing this knows what they’re doing, can tell you about it. And it’s not as intimidating to write one chapter as it is to write a whole book. So it’s a good way to get your feet wet. And these are also great as number one. It is a, you know, it establishes you as an, as an expert. You can use it as a business card, frankly, you can give it away to clients or you can sell them. But we’re going to talk more about that, all that next week. So I hope you will tune in for that. And I think that’s going to do it for this week. So until next time, as always. Well, for those of you who’ve watched the show or listened to us, listen to the podcast for a while, know I like to end it by encouraging you to go out and live fully, love deeply and engage authentically.
