The Perfect Length for Social Media [INFOGRAPHIC]

Do you know how long a post should be on Twitter? You’re probably saying 140 characters, right?

Wrong!

internet zooIt’s true that a tweet must be no longer than 140 characters. But that doesn’t mean 140 characters is the perfect length. Far from it. By the time you add in a URL, or a “Please Retweet” command, the core message of your tweet should be no more than 71-100 characters in length.

That’s just one of the findings from an infographic put together by SumAll and Buffer. The infographic lists the perfect length for posts and videos on social media to encourage engagement. And after all, that’s why anyone is on social media, especially business owners. It’s to engage with followers and ultimately, turn them into customers.

You’ll find plenty of debate online about how long a Facebook post should be to get likes, comments and shares. But SumAll and Buffer have the data to back it up. If you’re not familiar with these companies, SumAll
markets a social media analytics and business dashboard, while Buffer is a social media management platform.

Of course, every company is different, and every audience is different. I recommend that you try these suggestions, but if you don’t see success with them, feel free to experiment. Some people post very long status updates on Facebook and have good results. It just depends on your industry and your followers.
