It’s important that we make peace with those parts of ourselves that we call negative or bad because they are still part of us. They are the human side and we must welcome them for they have lessons to teach us. We don’t have to deny them. We must embrace them as much as we embrace our divinity, for in embracing the duality we become whole.
There is a light within that we don’t acknowledge because we’re lost in the darkness. But when we can open our eyes to see the light, we can feel and make peace with it. We can only see light in the darkness. If there was only light, we wouldn’t recognize it as such without the darkness to compare it to. When we seek the light, we do it because of the darkness. But what if it’s so dark we can’t see the light? How do we find it? By turning on a switch of course. The switch can be reading a book, hearing a speaker, meditating, seeing beauty in nature. Remember all you need is a spark to catch to ignite a flame.
This is why there is always hope. God is waiting for us to “reach out in the darkness,” as the song says. We only have to be open to receive, to ask for help out of the darkness and God will give us the switch to flip. And once the light enters, there is no going back unless we choose to flick that switch off and go back to the darkness. That is our choice.
But here’s the thing, it will be easier to go back to the light once we flip the switch the first time. Each time we go back, it gets easier and easier to turn on the switch, and sooner or later, we get so used to being in the light, we have no need to go back to the dark. Any time we do go back into the darkness, it only helps us remember why we like the light so much better.
