I got an email from a Quora user today who wanted to know how to promote your Facebook page in a group without seeming spammy or ineffective. It was a good question, and one I’m sure others have asked, which is why I thought I’d answer it here in my blog.
I logged into Quora (which is a great place to find ideas for your blog, by the way!), and discovered a Quora user named Jennifer Ellis had beaten me to the punch with the answer I was going to give.
Seek Permission before Promoting Your Facebook Page in a Group
She said, “You don’t promote your business on groups without permission, is the first thing.” You ask permission of the owner(s) of the group. And if they say yes, then you can write a post and link to your business page and/or website. You will always seem spammy and be ineffective if you start promoting something in a group without permission.”
Great advice!
There is nothing worse than to have a group be taken over by someone who is just hell bent on selling, instead of serving.
That’s what I expounded on in the following answer I posted on Quora:
Another indirect way to promote your page/website and brand is to comment on other people’s posts in the group and provide VALUE! The more often you can be seen as a helpful person who is interested in the good of the group, the more appealing you will be to other other members. And the more curious they will be to get to know you more!
