The 30 Minute Plan for Getting More Clients

getting more clients Small business owners and solopreneurs in particular, rarely have a moment to spare in their workday. But if getting more clients is a priority for you – and it certainly should be if you want to grow your business, you have to make time for marketing. But just how much time is the big question.

How does 30 minutes a day grab you?

Here is a formula you can follow Monday through Friday that is almost guaranteed to get you more business. (Notice I said, “almost.”) Sorry to disappoint you, but I cannot guarantee that you’ll get more clients. I can only guarantee that if you follow this strategy, you’re bound to be more successful than you are right now.

It doesn’t matter what time of day you set aside 30 minutes for marketing. Ideally, it should be at the start of your day. That way, once you’re finished, you can relax and get on with the rest of your tasks. But if you’d rather set aside 30 minutes at the end your workday, that’s fine too. The key to success is to be consistent. Experts say it takes 30 days to establish a habit. This 30 minute marketing plan should become a habit if you want to get the most benefit from it.

Let’s get started:

Monday – Research

This first 30 minutes of your week should be delegated to doing research. Review social networkings sites like Twitter and LinkedIn for followers or connections who might be good prospects for your business. Google “networking events” in your area to attend, where you can make contacts.

Tuesday – Prospecting

Send a warm email to the prospects you identified on Monday. Read my article, “How to Turn Cold Calls into Warm Leads with LinkedIn” for tips on how to do this effectively.

You can also follow this sample prospecting process I learned about from Ilise Benun, founder of Marketing Mentor:

Day 1: Connect on LinkedIn + follow on Twitter
Day 3: Send an introductory email message
Day 5: Follow up with a phone call
Day 12: Send another email
Day 18: Send something via snail mail
Day 25: Send another email
Day 28: Follow up with another phone call

Wednesday – Content Marketing

Spend a half hour on content marketing. This includes writing and distributing an email newsletter to your prospects, and/or writing an article for your blog.

Thursday – Follow up

If you sent emails out on Tuesday to your prospects, follow up with them today. It’s also a good time to take care of any outstanding proposals and invitations, as well as handle invoices.

Friday – Your Website

Add content to your website. If you wrote a blog article on Wednesday, upload and publish it today. Tweak your contact form or add the vCita plugin (love this tool!). Revise your “About us” page, add resources and/or testimonials.

Take the weekend off to rest & relax, and then start all over again the following Monday.

  1. This looks awesome. I’m going to check out your other article that you referred to in the Tuesday actions. It’s that emailing that I feel resistance to for various reasons. I need to find a way to do it that feels authentic and doable for me.

  3. Great article Gloria!

I love structures, I use a lot of them and I teach them. But I never saw the marketing process this way. And definitely it sounds so doable!
